The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has launched a mobile application to provide digital counselling services for students and staff.
Developed by the KNUST Counselling Centre (KCC) in collaboration with the University Information Technology Services (UITS), the e-counselling app allows users to book virtual or in-person sessions with professional or peer counsellors.

The platform features a news blog, curated mental health resources, and a secure chat function for confidential conversations.
The app was officially unveiled during a live demonstration attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, senior administrators, KCC staff, and student leaders. It is now available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Mrs. Victoria De-Graft Adjei, Deputy Registrar and Head of the KNUST Counselling Centre, said the app was designed to offer accessible support through a format student are already comfortable using.
“Mental health is important, it is the bedrock on which our overall health is founded,” she said, adding that the app is also open to university staff.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dickson hailed the initiative as timely and transformative.
“This is mental health at your doorstep,” she said. “It aligns perfectly with the university’s vision to holistically support our students as they grow into well-rounded professionals. This is a valuable resource that supports our mission to ensure students are amply supported.”
She expressed appreciation to the Counselling Centre, the Directorate of Student Affairs, and UITS for their collaboration in developing the app.
“We will never relent in our efforts to improve and serve you better. This afternoon’s launch is a clear example of that commitment,” Prof. Dickson said.
The Vice-Chancellor urged students to take full advantage of the platform.
“While the academic path is rigorous, we do not want any student to walk it alone. With this app, help is just a few taps away,” she said. “Make use of it, so that we can continue to have you whole and thriving.”

Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, Director of Student Affairs, also commended the initiative and thanked the Vice-Chancellor and student leaders for their continued support.
